Machine Operator EFZ

As a machinist, you control the largest machines in construction — precisely, powerfully and responsibly.

What does a machinist do? Tasks, education, pay and career opportunities

Machinists are the force behind progress on every construction site. They operate excavators, rollers, dumpers and other construction equipment, move tons of material and ensure precision in earthworks and civil engineering. Their technical skills and sense of responsibility make them indispensable professionals for excavation pits, foundations and infrastructure projects.

Responsibility of a machinist — What does this include?

Machinists control and maintain construction and earthmoving machines. Whether excavation, leveling or compaction — they are responsible for ensuring that everything runs smoothly on the construction site.

Central activities:

  • Operating excavators, crawlers, wheel loaders and dumpers
  • Excavation, leveling, compaction and material transportation
  • Control of machine functions, oil levels, hydraulics and electronics
  • Maintenance, care and minor repairs on machines
  • Assistance with construction site measurement and leveling
  • Compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Cooperation with construction managers, polishers and builders

Machinists work with precision and an overview — they not only move soil, but entire construction projects.
